woke up about an hour ago (2-ish) from a nice, looooong 12 hour nap after an even longer weekend in san diego with chris, vanessa and richard. what a great time, huh?
well, since i haven't updated in about 2 weeks i think now would be as good a time as any. wednesday (july 20th) was our one year anniversary. it was such an awesome night. we went to birraporetti's downtown for dinner and to exchange gifts. he ordered the shrimp alfredo with a caesar salad and i had manicotti and a salad. then we did the whole gift exchange thing. he opened his first and...i'd like to think he loved it! in the car (so it wouldn't be as much for him to open at dinner) i gave him 2 of his 3 gifts; the phantom of the opera DVD and CD. at dinner he opened his "big" gift which was a photo album/scrapbook of our past six and a half years with poems, songs, pictures, IM conversations, banners, etc. as i was giving him his gift, one of the two waiters came over to take our dessert order. (he ordered the chocolate cake and i ordered strawberries and cream.) then as he was giving me MY present (a promise ring) the other waiter brought over the dessert...as i was crying. i think we made him feel really uncomfortable. anyway...the funny thing was, i guess he saw the ring and thought it was an engagement ring or something because WITHOUT CARDING US, he brought over two glasses of champange and kept saying "congratulations, you two!" with a big smile. it was crazy sweet. oh...i love that boy!!! :-D i wish i had taken pictures of us that night, but...not so much planning, i guess. anyway, after dinner we went to the hobby center to see phantom of the opera since it's his favorite musical. it was fantastic! better than the movie. if any of you have the time (and the money) i suggest you go see it before they leave town! while we were there, we saw PAUL SHUMAN (whom i thought was dead or something since i haven't seen/heard from him in FOREVER), PHILLIPE RENDON, and MINA HANNA!!!! it was sooo awesome! ...one of the best nights in a really long time!
as for the weekend in san diego...way too much fun and WAAAAAAY too many "firsts"! i think between vanessa and myself, we probably took about 6 rolls of film. thursday night when we got in, richard took us for drinks (chris and i, of course didn't drink) at some mexican restaurant. (vanessa and i were famished!) then we brought richard back to base, looked at his bikes and his room, then went back to the hotel and watched a movie before hitting the sack for bed. friday morning we woke up, showered, ate at the continental breakfast, then tried to decide what in san diego to do for the day while richard was at work. the hotel had one of those displays with all the different brochures of things to do and whatnot, so we picked some (almost all of them) up and went back to the room to "discuss". good thing everything in san diego cost $50+. we ended up just going to the beach (the PACIFIC OCEAN--pacific beach), hooters for lunch, then to an OUTDOOR shopping mall. seems that all malls in california are kind of inside out, since they have little rain and the weather is wonderful. ooh, i almost forgot. they were going through a heatwave in san diego while we were there. we walked into foot locker just to look around and one of the employees looked at us and was like, "it's nice to be in the AC away from the heat, huh?" to which we replied, "we're from houston. this weather is BEAUTIFUL compared to what we came from." he kind of laughed it off then walked away. HA! ok, so we did that friday then washed richards filthy truck and met up with him for dinner at...uh...oh yeah, mcdonalds because the wait at outback was WAAAAY too long. after dinner we went to kent and kat's house to play a little poker and 3-man. YAY! we got in LATE from that and slept in until about 8 on saturday morning. saturday chris and i tried to go buy donuts for us for breakfast. little did we know, donuts in san diego are nearly impossible to find. every hotel/gas station has them, but no one knows where the nearest store is. anyway, after looking for one for almost 30 minutes, we went back to the hotel to get vanessa and richard and then set out for denny's to have breakfast. after breakfast we went to base to see where richard works then went to some park to play frisbee golf. i hear we have one in the woodlands, but i don't know who could play that game in our temperatures. we had a good time, even though vanessa and i sucked horribly at it! the scores were as follows: richard-63, chris-64, miree-98, vanessa-102. chris and vanessa had to buy lunch since "loser paid". ha. j/k we had a really good time. after BIIIIIIG slices of pizza for lunch we went back to the hotel for naps and showers before going out to some country bar an hour away to meet up with my cousin, john dardenne. all they do at that bar is line dances...to EVERY song. i thought it was a small town lousisiana thing, but i guess it's just not a san antonio, cowboys thing. i dunno. that's the only bar i've ever been to. *sigh* we stayed at _________ (can't remember what it's called) until about midnight and as we were leaving, some girl threw up on chris and i...and we had to drive home like that. we got to the hotel, each of us took a quick shower, and we hit the sack (about 2) to wake up at 4:30 for our flight back to houston. we just BARELY made it onto the flight because we flew standby (got the tickets from mrs. edman!) and a family of 4 decided not to show up...so we got to sit together! got home about 12:30, ate some REAL food, then went with mom, dad and chris to look at a new place for rob. i was super tired when we got home so i went to take a little "nap"...which as you've already read turned into 12 hours which is why i'm up right now!
i was supposed to have a bio test today, but since i checked my email, it appears that the test is not until tomorrow. thank goodness. i didn't open that book ONCE while we were gone! ha. i got a 70 on the test and 75 on the lab test...not looking so good for this stupid class. i haven't learned a darn thing, so i think i'm going to drop if this test isn't any better. mom and dad said it was fine, so i'm gunna just do it. HA!
well, LEAVE ME A COMMENT so i know people still read this thing. as soon as i get the pictures back from vanessa, i'm gunna put some on my pictures page...or on here if i can figure out how! take care, kids!!
