wow. what a day it's been so far. let's see...i went to class (nothing really interesting happened) then came home and that's when all the excitement started. i've been wanting to go to sam's to get food and water and stuff cuz buying in bulk is cheaper and yah duh yah duh so i got back to the apartment and carol came out of her room so i asked if she wanted to go with me. she did so i went to the bathroom and she got dressed. we left here about 11:15 and on our way up to austin there was an overturned 18-wheeler that caught fire on the south-bound side of i-35. traffic was pretty backed up but we figured it'd be cleared by the time we got out of sam's and were heading home for our 2:00 classes. well, we drove to where my directions said sam's was and NO GOOD! there was no sam's there. NONE! we asked some guy if he knew where it was and he said that the only one he knew of was in north austin. so we decided to come home...and got stuck in that horrible traffic. we sat in traffic for 2.5 hours, moved about a mile and finally decided to get off at one of the buda exits. i called david to see if he could get us home the backways from there and carol called matt to ask the same thing. as i was exiting, carol happened to look down at my dash for some reason and noticed that my temperature was JUST below the "H". so i pulled into the home depot parking lot, we opened the hood and some guy came over and helped us out. i called daddy and he talked to the guy. blah blah. we shopped around home depot for a while until my car cooled off enough for me to drive it a few miles to a car shop. then we waited there for carol's friend matt to come pick us up. in the meantime, we've both missed our 2:00 classes and don't have a tan to show for it! ;) we still have no food because we didn't get to sams...or walmart like we were planning on doing. i just got a phone call from the car shop and they said it's going to be $200 to fix the problem. i need to email my professor to let him know why i wasn't in class today. stupid 18-wheeler accident.
i've decided not to listen to anything that any of these news stations are saying about rita because so far they haven't been very right about anything. first they said she'd hit around 8:00 am saturday, now it's 2:00 am. then she was supposed to be a cat.3...then a catagory four by tonight (turned into a 4 yesterday) then a catagory 5 late tonight (it's been a cat 5 since i got out of class today).
the texas state website says that we may not have classes due to weather (aka-tornadoes and flooding). galveston and houston both reached record temperatures today. houston's old record was 97 with the average at 89...today it was 98 and chris said the temp is supposed to be 100 by rush hour. i wasn't really paying attention to the numbers for galveston, but i know they're way high, too. the coast is under mandatory evacuation and houston's under voluntary evacuation. rita has gone from a cat 2 to a cat 5 in 24 hours...that's soo creepy!
kat finally had her baby! andrew steven. 7 lbs, 6 oz, 19 inches. can't wait to see pictures!!
